I had previously mentioned our new roommate, Tulip, a rambunctious but well-meaning dachshund/terrier mix. For the first month, I kept the animals separated with a gate, through which they had a few curious stare-downs and barking/hissing matching. Although harmony has not yet been attained, they are at least becoming accustomed to each other.

Hi, everyone! It's been quite a long time since the last update, so you may have thought this blog was done with, but it's coming back!
A lot has happened to us in the past year and a half. Katamari turned 5 years old (wow!) and had to have two teeth removed (boo!) We went through a little domestic transition, during which Katamari had to go live with her Auntie Lauren for a few months and actually cohabit with other cats (which was ...not a success).
Then Mommy came back and moved Katamari to a brand new Brooklyn home where she spent the first few days crying under a dresser. (actually crying! Look at that tear!)
Although it's been said that Scottish Folds are often comfortable with new environments and travel well, Katamari tends to be very territorial. She also got some new roommates, one of whom is (uh-oh!) A dog named Tulip.
Since Katamari and I have been having a total love-fest since re-uniting, I am starting the blog back up... BECAUSE SHE IS STILL ADORABLE!
Towards the end of the hot weather this summer, I decided to put a kiddie pool out on the deck. This made Katamari very curious, but wary. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of when she finally fell in! Needless to say, she was quite unhappy.
As a general rule, Katamari is not very interested in people food. We sometimes offer it to her, but she shows little interest. She tends to act very curious whenever we eat anything, so we usually hold it out for her to smell, after which she typically turns up her nose and walks away. Based on some of the things she HAS eaten, I'm inclined to believe Katamari is something of a gourmet. We once brought her some leftover cheeseburger from Peter Lugar, which she went to town on (she CAN has cheezburger!). I don't think it's out of line to say that the Peter Lugar cheeseburger is the best cheeseburger in America and Katamari seems to agree.
Katamari further demonstrated her refined taste when she was presented with a rack of lamb cooked by Rocco Despirito. One of our friends was working on the crew of Rocco Despirito's reality show and came to our house after work one evening with a bag full of racks of lamb that had been prepared on that day's show. After the people had eaten their fill, I decided to give some to Katamari to see what she'd make of it. I kind of didn't think she'd go for it since she doesn't tend to go for meats with sauces or too much seasoning, but she opened up a can of nom on those chops.
By this criteria, you would think her cat food would be delicious, but I tried it once and... not so much.
So I occasionally hear stories about people who have a nightmare of a time getting their cats into the carrier to take to the vet. Luckily, I have no problems whatsoever getting Katamari into her carrier. For some reason, she loves it. As soon as I take it out, she's pulling the door open to get inside. In fact, it's harder to get her OUT than in. Once she's at the vets, we usually have to tip the carrier sideways and dump her out.
This might be because we left her carrier out for her to play in when she was a kitten, so it doesn't have as many negative connotations. It worked!

I used to think that Katamari had no idea when I was leaving, but I'm starting to think she's wised up to what it means when I start putting things in "the bag."
Here we see Katamari trying to solve the mystery of "the ledge." Can she get up there? (yes) What's on the other side? (more roof) It is a mystery we are actively trying to keep her from solving, which is why she is not allowed outside unattended. She almost cracked the case last week, which is why she was temporarily grounded from going outside.
